The mandate and formal status of GI Norden
GI Norden is based on the membership of national GI associations, represented by one main organisation from each country in the Nordic region.
The members are Geoforum Danmark (Denmark), ProGIS (Finland), LISA (Iceland), GeoForum (Norway), and ULI (Sweden).
The Faeroe Islands, Greenland and The Aaland Islands have the status as observers. The observer has the right to participate in the board meetings, with the ability to participate in the debate and put forward proposals without the right to vote.
In the articles of GI Norden and the working program it is presupposed an initiative to offer a membership to a suitable national geographic association within each of the Baltic countries Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania.
GI Norden is organised as an ideal organisation in Norway and is managed according to Norwegian legislation. The president is Mr. Henning Sten Hansen, Denmark. The secretariat is located at Hønefoss, Norway, and is run by the national GI association GeoForum in Norway.
