GI Norden's Award of honour to Professor Kirsi Virrantaus
At the GI Norden Workshop in Selfoss, Iceland in June, GI Norden's president Þorbjörg Kr. Kjartansdottir announced that the GI Norden Award of honour for 2010 will be given to Kirsi Virrantaus, Professor in geoinformatics and cartography at Aalto University in Finland.

The price has been given every year since 2006, and Professor
Kirsi Virrantaus is the first Finnish and also the first woman to be
rewarded.
Professor Virrantaus is one of the most achieved and
internationally honoured Finnish GI pioneers. She has been involved in
multiple international GI associations (ICA, FIG, ISPRS, and ScanGIS)
and has been influencing in the high quality teaching of GI in Finland.
Virrantaus will be properly rewarded in the fall by ProGIS, the Finnish
national GI association.
